

If you do have a question for the linux community, don't mention ubuntu unless it's related to the issue - this will avoid the folks who just knee-jerk badmouth it.


If you like Ubuntu, keep on using it and enjoy it. But yeah, mostly it's just cool to hate on Ubuntu - when other distros make similar missteps, they don't cop nearly as much heat. It kept on trying for new things and in doing so made some missteps - for the most part, people remember the missteps but not so much the good things. It did some major work early to make linux more accessible and user-friendly, which is what gained it its initial popularity. Ubuntu gets some undeserved flak and some deserved.
